Early Maladaptive Schemas and Childhood Maltreatment Predict Disordered Eating in Adults

There is a gap in understanding the relationship of specific types of childhood maltreatment and certain early maladaptive schemas on eating disorder symptoms (EDs) in adulthood. Results revealed that physical neglect, enmeshment, abandonment, vulnerability, incompetence, and unrelenting standards predict increased ED symptoms and explain 28% of the variance in EDs.
