Early Maladaptive Schemas and Childhood Neglect Predict Adult Physical Aggression

Maladaptive schemas can induce negative outcomes such as anger and strained relationships. We investigated whether aggression may be an outcome of maladaptive schemas and childhood maltreatment. Results revealed that physical neglect and schemas of mistrust, insufficient self-control, incompetence, emotional inhibition, abandonment, enmeshment, and unrelenting standards were prognostic of adult aggressiveness.
