Different Forms of Childhood Maltreatment Predict Various Types of Somatic Symptoms in Adulthood

Previous research has examined the impact childhood maltreatment has on health. Our research found that different types of childhood maltreatment predicted different somatic symptoms and experiences. Emotional abuse predicted health worries, higher rates of reported illness, and problems interacting with physicians. Physical abuse and neglect predicted negative consequences of illness.
