References are a ubiquitous preemployment assessment that can provide unique personality information about job applicants. Nevertheless, they yield relatively low validity estimates. Our research will develop and validate an automated keyword scoring tool for references that is rooted in one of the most generalizable personality frameworks linked to job performance.
