Trust Mindsets: Learning That Trust Can be Self-Fulfilling Builds Trust

A novel measure of "trust mindsets" increases trust. Participants learn that to trust someone means to praise their moral character, a gift the trustee often wants to pay back. Participants trust more after adopting this self-fulfilling trust mindset, validated across three studies. Interpersonal mindsets can meaningfully address our trust crisis.
