The Mediating Effects of Gender, Sexual Orientation, and Social Self-Concept on Depression

Abstract
This study examined the influence of self-reported gender on social self-concept and depression. Scores for social self-concept and depression differed by gender. Greater levels of depression were found for women and sexual minorities than for men and heterosexuals. Social self-concept mediated the influence of gender on depression.
