Abstract
A pandemic is isolating, anxiety-inducing, and lonely. Drug use may be a coping mechanism for such experiences. Therefore, we predicted that recreational drug use and anxiety increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our hypothesis was supported. Anxiety levels were higher during the pandemic, and associated with greater frequency of drug use.
