Childhood Maltreatment and Maladaptive Schemas Predict Alcohol Abuse in Adults

Prior research has found that both childhood maltreatment and maladaptive schemas relate to alcohol abuse in adulthood. We hypothesized that the combination of childhood maltreatment and maladaptive schemas would predict alcohol abuse in adulthood. Results showed that physical neglect and six different maladaptive schemas predicted alcohol abuse in adulthood.
