Abstract

Loneliness is fueled by negative thoughts and beliefs. This is the first study to examine whether challenging negative thoughts about time alone helps us experience time alone more positively and feel less lonely. Our laboratory experiment showed that reframing time alone as solitude helps us preserve positive mood when alone.
