Social Context and Individual Beliefs Impact the Perception of the Importance of Pronoun Use for Gender Affirmation

The minority stress model indicates that non-affirmation of gender identity is a stressor for poor mental health outcomes among transgender and non-binary individuals (TNB). We found that endorsement of social roles, transphobia, low empathy, older age, and no contact are predictive of negative perceptions of pronoun use for gender affirmation.
