Abstract
Can providing for others protect from loneliness in later life? To date, the relationship between unpaid productive activities (e.g., caregiving and volunteering) and loneliness remains unclear. Data from a longitudinal national survey from Indonesia reveal conditions in which helping others reduces the risk for loneliness in older age.
