Examining the Relations between Pre-Discussion Activity, Engagement, and Teacher Support during Discussions to Enhance Students' Comprehension

Abstract

Numerous studies have evidenced that classroom discussions influence comprehension of text. However, investigations focusing on combinations of pre-discussion activities and discussions are relatively fewer. This study compared learning attained through un-structured discussions against knowledge acquired through teacher-involved discussions in students who had previously engaged in discrete cognitive levels of learning.
