Early Predictors: The Impact of Child-Caregiver Relationship Quality on Developmental Outcomes for Emotion Self-Regulation and Related Problem Behaviour

This cross-sectional study with 479 adolescents aged 17-19 years examined the association between childhood child-caregiver relationship quality, and degree of emotion self-regulation (ESR) and problem behaviour during adolescence. Findings revealed that child-caregiver closeness predicted ESR and problem behaviour, and interparental conflict moderated the association between child-caregiver closeness and children's ESR.
