The Roots and Consequences of Social Hierarchy
Social hierarchies are ubiquitous. This symposium examines key underpinnings and consequences of hierarchy beliefs. We show that hierarchy beliefs affect diverse outcomes, including hiring preferences, attention to and perceptions of inequality, and the amount of empathy felt towards out-groups. Further, the present work investigates the changing nature of social hierarchies.
