Coming Out Again and Again: Disclosure of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity to Healthcare Providers Among LGBTQ Patients
Disclosure of sexual orientation and/or gender identity to healthcare providers is critical to the provision of appropriate services for LGBTQ people. Factors related to disclosure include: trust in providers and the healthcare system, healthcare literacy, and patient satisfaction. Providers can foster environments that encourage disclosure, leading to improved outcomes.
