Nurturing Intelligence: Opportunities and Limits
Intelligence is both highly stable (individual differences) and variable (lifespan development). Natural experiments (blindness nurtures working memory), cognitive training (reasoning training nurtures intelligence) and educational practices (e.g., kindergarten attendance) substantiate the modifiability. Past FLynn effects and expert opinions underscore a concept of modifiable intelligence; however, rank orders are robust.
