Addressing the Homunculus in the Room: Alternative Mechanisms to Account for Cognitive Control
Behavior that cannot fully be explained by prior learning experiences with actual responses is often attributed to cognitive control. However, there is an alarming lack of knowledge on mechanisms driving cognitive control. The current symposium provides examples of how "control" is linked to mechanisms traditionally attributed to automatic (stimulus-driven) processes.
