Barriers to Gender Equality: What Hinders Men From Getting Into Communal Roles, and Which Interventions Could Help?

Friday, March 8, 2019 · Paris, France

Social Psychology

Men’s reluctance to engage in communal roles is discussed as impeding gender equality. The presentations examine this low engagement by focusing on early-childhood gender stereotyping, pluralistic ignorance regarding gender normative behaviors, work-related penalties resulting from engaging in communal roles, and masculinity-threat compensatory responses. Respective interventions are empirically tested and integrated.
