Evidence That Wealth Makes Cultures More Interdependent, Not Less: GDP, Status, and Culture

The idea that economic growth makes cultures more individualistic is well-accepted, but does it fit the data? As economic growth reaches non-Western regions, researchers have unique opportunities to test this theory. Four studies present evidence that wealth and modernization in non-Western countries has not made people more individualistic, more “Western.”
