The Social Consequences and Persistence of (Over)Confidence
Previous research found that people trust confident advisors more than doubtful advisors. This symposium offers a more nuanced view of how people perceive and respond to confidence. Behavioral experiments, surveys of objectively rated chess players, and Big Data methods reveal a range of circumstances where displays of confidence can backfire.
