Preparing Youth for the World: The Racial, Political, and Academic Socialization of Racial-Ethnic Minority and Immigrant Adolescents in the United States
Parents and peers prepare youth for the world by modeling behavior, providing support, and communicating values related to race, politics, and/or academics. In this symposium, we examine how these different types of socialization shape the social and emotional development of racial-ethnic minority and immigrant youth, enhancing strengths or identifying vulnerabilities.
