Abstract

This study (N = 105, children aged 8–12) presents novel findings that not only low, but also advanced mindreading (detecting mental states from the eye-region) relates to greater child social anxiety. Advanced mindreading relates to greater social anxiety through heightened self-consciousness (indexed as physiological blushing) in social situations.
