Abstract

This study explores associations between racial socialization messages and self-regulation strategies in a sample of 190 African American college students. Results of hierarchical linear regression analyses suggest some messages are positively associated with the use of cognitive appraisal as a coping strategy, whereas the opposite is the case for others.
