Multi-Tasking While Reading Impedes Writing Quality but Not Comprehension

Abstract
Two experiments assessed the effect of interruptions during reading on retention and use of new information. The first experiment demonstrated no reliable effect on retention of read material. The second experiment demonstrated that reading interruptions resulted in poorer quality writing, whereas writing interruptions affected writing time but not essay quality.
