Abstract

How does the mere presence of people with similar or dissimilar ideological beliefs affect attitudes towards political candidates? Real-time ratings by a panel of undecided voters watching a presidential debate televised on CNN showed greater synchrony (asynchrony) and polarization (distance) among neighbors compared to non-neighbors sharing the same (opposite) views.
