Abstract

Results show that historicist narratives temper how blame adjudicators communicate with a norm violator. Narratives achieve this effect by reducing the Blame and Control of Self-Formation attributions made towards the norm violator and increasing feelings of compassion in the perceivers, while leaving perceived Freedom of Action intact
