Abstract

Social rejection is associated with aggression through the hostile cognitive bias. However, it’s unknown whether self-esteem stability moderates the impact of rejection on hostile cognition. We observed that rejection on a virtual ball-tossing game increased levels of hostile cognition, but only among those with unstable self-esteem across a 7-day period.
