Abstract

In the Middle East, Fiji, and the United States, we investigate the role of religious cognition in intergroup conflict using economic games and moral dilemmas. We predicted that beliefs about God promote the application of universal, versus parochial, moral norms. Results support the prediction, moderated by beliefs about God’s nature.
