Abstract

Contradicting previous findings associating essentialist thinking about social categories with heightened dehumanization of members of those categories, young adults in India were more likely to dehumanize members of categories that were less essentialized. This finding demonstrates how cultural values can impact representations of social groups and the downstream consequences thereof.
