Abstract

Here we compared the phenomenological characteristics of episodic memories, counterfactuals, and future projections in younger and older adults in two studies with diverse samples. There were consistent phenomenological differences between three event types, but not age groups across studies. Results are discussed in relation to reality monitoring- and motivation theories.
