Memory Intrusions: A Mechanistic Signature for Enhanced Emotional Memory Strength

Abstract
Memories of negative emotional events tend to more strongly persist over time relative to memories for neutral information. The findings of the present study indicated that intrusive memories - the involuntary re-experiencing of emotional events – are a potential mechanism that underlie such emotional memory stability.
