The Effects of Perspective Taking Vary As a Function of Topic Importance: A Mediating Role of Imbalance Perception

Abstract

Perspective taking is often recommended as an effective way of conflict solution. However, we found that the positive effect of perspective taking was attenuated when discussing personally important issues. In addition, imbalance perception served as a mediator that partially explained the interaction effect of perspective taking and topic importance.
