Abstract

We developed a self-report scale to assess people’s ability to pursue hedonic goals and tested its validity in five studies. People high in the ability to pursue hedonic goals experienced more intrusive thoughts (e.g., about work) during a relaxation phase in the laboratory and reported higher life satisfaction.
