Abstract

How do people feel after resisting strong temptations? Five studies show: the more conflict participants experienced during self-control decision making, the more negative they felt about their (food) choice. This was the case for unhealthy and healthy choices, suggesting that conflict spoiled feelings of pleasure as well as success.
