Different Stories of Love: Chinese Couples Are Committed, Whereas American Couples Are Physically Intimate

Abstract

We compared the experience of passion, intimacy, and commitment events among 98 Chinese couples and 124 American couples. As expected, Chinese couples were more likely to report commitment events and less likely to report passion events compared to American couples. There were few cultural differences, however, in intimacy events.
