Differences in Language Use in Response to a Negative Mood Induction Among Ruminators

Abstract
Rumination is a predictor of depression and associated with poor social support. Those with depression use more self-referential and negative language. We expected ruminators to use “I” and negative language more and social words less. Text analyses of written responses to a brief negative mood induction partially supported our hypothesis.
