Effects of Political Candidates’ Social Identity Authenticity on Voting Intentions

Abstract
We investigated the effect of social identity authenticity on voting intentions. While Christian participants were more likely to vote for candidates who publicly affirmed their shared social identity (regardless of their policy positions), non-religious participants were more likely to vote for candidates with congruent beliefs (regardless of their social identity).
