Abstract
Sex abuse crimes against women and children in South Africa have consistently been on the rise. Survivors are often cared for by untrained informal nonfamilial caregivers. Without proper support, education and training negative consequences of informal caregiving such as vicarious traumatization, secondary traumatic stress, compassion fatigue, or burnout, may occur.
