Orienting of Attention without Awareness Does Not Require Control Settings Related to the Cue

Abstract
Past research indicates that exogenous attention can be captured unconsciously. In addition, some find exogenous cueing benefits depend upon attentional control settings yet others find cueing costs rather than benefits. Here we use continuous flash suppression to avoid stimulus and methodological issues and find clear attentional benefits from unconscious cues.
Attention
