Abstract

Using data from a non-western prospective longitudinal study, development of cognitive sex differences was analyzed. Sex was found to moderate the trajectories of cognitive functioning, with boys improving and girls worsening regardless of severity of socioeconomic or nutritional deprivation. Findings highlight the importance of gender equality to facilitate equal opportunities.
