Parenting Quality Mediates Effects of Early Family Adversity on Later Social Competence

Abstract

Previous research suggests that family adversity relates to parent behavior problems that predict social adjustment problems in children. This longitudinal study found that parenting quality in childhood predicted social competence in emerging adulthood and also mediated the link between early family adversity and less social competence in youth.
