Abstract

Theories of causality from visual input predict causal impressions only for event sequences frequently encountered in individuals’ or the species’ past. In contrast, four experiments (N=752) found causal impressions for unrealistic sequences widely considered “non-causal”. Such one-shot induction sits better with abilities for rapid causal learning in the real world.
