Abstract

An investigation of the potential mechanistic role of the therapeutic alliance found improvements in alliance temporally preceded next session PTSD symptom reduction in 144 patients participating in a randomized trial comparing prolonged exposure therapy to sertraline. Strong therapeutic relationships may set the stage for symptom improvement in these treatments.
