Abstract

Economic status is an important social signal that activates stereotypes. In 3 pre-registered studies, wealthy targets were perceived as more competent, but not warmer, than poor targets, and ratings correlated with participants’ own income. We also show how stereotype judgements differ across a full spectrum of wealth levels.
