Abstract

Citizen science projects about wildlife animals (e.g., foxes, bats) are becoming increasingly popular. We investigated whether certain representations of animals (e.g., as imperiled) contribute to citizens’ participation intentions and recall of information. We demonstrate that imperiled foxes increased compassion and, thereby, increased participation intentions and recall of positive information.
