Abstract

We investigated the relationship between trait regulatory focus and rivalry. The results indicated that promotion-focused people tend to have more rivals than prevention-focused people and rivals were highly beneficial to them. Especially, motivation resulting from rivalry led to better performance in promotion-focused people.
