Abstract

The effects of prenatal lead exposure on fetal brain development was examined using intrauterine functional MRI. Connections between two neural networks were significantly different when comparing lead-exposed and lead-naïve groups. This is the first study to demonstrate that even before birth lead may cause delays in neural maturation.
