Abstract
Socioeconomic status (SES) has been established as a major influence in child brain and behavioral development. Here, we examine whether SES-related brain variation emerges even before birth. Using fetal functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) we discovered differences in the fetal brain, including altered amygdala-prefrontal connectivity that relate to maternal SES.
