Influence of Metaphorical Terms on the Opinion Towards Surrogacy

Abstract

The present study explored if the opinion on surrogacy can be influenced by using different metaphorical terms for “surrogate mother”. Results indicated that depending on the metaphorical term used, participants favored more monetary compensation of surrogate mothers. The results fit with the framing function of metaphors, influencing causal interpretations.
