Abstract

This study clarified the perception of popular and unpopular peers during adolescence by examining the relative weight of various physical characteristics. Results underlined the weight of physical features in the determination of social status, especially overweight. Both implications for social exclusion prevention and for experimental manipulation of popularity are discussed.
